The day before Opening Day was added to the roster to replace RHP Raisel Iglesias, who went on the 3-day paternity list...was 1 of 5 rookies on the Opening Day roster (RHP Tyler Mahle, RHP Zack Weiss, OF Phillip Ervin, OF Jesse Winker)...made 1 relief appearance for the Reds before he was optioned to Louisville on 4/1, prior to the third game of the season, when Iglesias came off the paternity list...was recalled on 5/7 and made 8 relief apps before he was optioned to Louisville on 6/5, when RHP Anthony DeSclafani came off the 60-day disabled list...was promoted again on 6/19, when RHP Austin Brice was optioned, and spent the rest of the season on the Reds' roster...from 7/24-8/28 was disabled with a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee...in his last appearance for the Reds prior to his disabling, on 7/22 vs Pit, entered the game in the fourth inning in relief of starter Matt Harvey and for the second time in 2018 (5/18 vs Cubs) threw 3.1 innings, the longest relief apps of his career...didn't allow an earned run in September (8g, 8ip, 3h, 1r, 4bb, 8k)...from 8/29-8/31 pitched on 3 consecutive days for the only time in his career.

Spent most of the season at Louisville, where he led the Bats in wins, starts, quality starts (12), innings pitched and strikeouts...in his Major League debut made 4 starts and 3 relief apps for the Reds...was on the roster for 5 days from 5/30-6/3 but did not pitch...in his second stint spent 1 day on the roster, on 7/1 vs Cubs started in his Major League debut and earned the 5-3 win...was promoted again in September, after Louisville's season concluded, and in 3 relief apps retired 18 of 23 batters over 6.1 scoreless innings (2h, 2bb, 3k, 1hbp) before finishing the season with 3 consecutive starts (0-1, 6.59, 13.2ip, 10er)...on 7/1 vs Cubs became the first Reds pitcher to record in his Major League debut his first career win, hit and RBI since John Roper on 5/16/1993 vs Col...while batting with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the fourth inning, produced a 2-run single off Eddie Butler that gave the Reds a 4-3 lead...became the first Reds pitcher with 2 RBI in his big league debut since Paul Moskau had 2 RBI on 6/21/77 at Phi...became the second Major League pitcher ever to produce in his debut a victory and multiple RBI against the defending World Series champion (Pit's Gerrit Cole vs SF, June 2013)...on 7/1 vs Cubs, struck out his first career batter (Jon Jay)...3 other pitchers made Major League debuts on 7/1, including Reds teammate Luke Farrell (then with the Royals), Felix Jorge (Twins) and Paul Blackburn (Athletics)...was the first time 4 players made MLB debuts as starting pitchers on the same day since 4/17/1914, when Red Faber (White Sox), Erv Kantlehner (Pirates), Pete Henning (Kansas City of the Federal League) and Ed Porray (Buffalo of the Federal League) did it...in the 5-4 loss on 9/24 vs Bos was in line for his third victory of the season but in the eighth inning became the victim of a blown save when Mookie Betts produced a 3-run double off Raisel Iglesias that tied the game at 4-4...retired the first batter in all 3 of his relief apps...stranded both inherited baserunners...did not enter a game in a save situation...the Reds went 2-5 in games in which he pitched...attended his first Major League spring training camp.

In his first season at Class AA, for Pensacola was an MiLB.com Organization All-Star and a mid-season Southern League All-Star...among Southern League leaders ranked second in innings pitched, third in strikeouts and seventh in ERA...averaged 7.71 strikeouts per 9 innings, fourth-best ratio in the SL...among all Reds farmhands ranked third in ERA and fifth in strikeouts...on 11/18 was added to the Reds' 40-man roster.
