In 2015, his strike zone discipline was rated by Baseball America the best in the Nationals' organization...in 2014 won the Carolina League batting title, was a CL All-Star and MiLB.com Organization All-Star and played in the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars Game...in 2013 was a South Atlantic League All-Star, an MiLB.com Organization All-Star, recipient of the Nationals' Bob Boone Award for his approach to the game and was rated by Baseball America the best hitter for average in Wsh's system...graduated in 2009 from Serra High School in San Mateo, CA with a school-record 152 career hits...as a senior led his team to the Central Coast sectional championship...also in 2009 was a high school All-American, first-team All-State as named by Cal Hi Sports and MaxPreps and was the Player of the Year in San Mateo County and the West Catholic Athletic Conference...from 2010-2012 played 3 seasons at the University of California at Berkeley, where his 244 career hits ranked sixth on the school's all-time list when he was drafted...in 2010 was a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American...as a sophomore in 2011 was named Pac-10 Player of the Year after leading the conference in hits...as a junior in 2012 appeared on USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award watch list and was named to the All-Pac-12 first team and TPX All-American third team.
