Phillips to begin rehab assignment Friday

DENVER -- Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips will begin a Minor League rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Phillips is working back from July 11 surgery to repair a torn left thumb ligament.

How many games Phillips will play is yet to be determined.

"I think we're going to reassess after Sunday and see how he feels and see if he needs more at-bats," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "He'll definitely play through the weekend."

Reliever Logan Ondrusek, currently on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain, is also expected to have his first rehab outing for Louisville on Friday.
