Stanton's throw to get Pena at second confirmed

MIAMI -- The Reds lost a managerial challenge in the top of the ninth inning when Brayan Pena was tagged out trying to stretch a single into a double against the Marlins on Saturday.

Facing Steve Cishek in a 1-1 game with one out, Pena lined a hit into right field past Giancarlo Stanton and to the wall. Pena hustled toward second base as Stanton made an on-target throw to shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria. As Pena slid feet-first, Hechavarria applied a tag that barely grazed his helmet.

Pena argued the out call from second base with umpire Mike Winters, but the affable catcher controlled himself and even offered a hug. Manager Bryan Price challenged the call, but it was confirmed after a replay review.

Even before the ruling was confirmed, Pena was walking back to the dugout once he saw the replay himself on the Marlins Park videoboard.
