CINCINNATI -- Corner infielder Jack Hannahan, who has been on the disabled list all season while recovering from right shoulder surgery in October 2013, could be activated soon.

Hannahan has played in 12 rehab games, four at Class A Dayton and eight with Triple-A Louisville. He served as the designated hitter in all four games with Dayton, going 4-for-12 with a double and an RBI. Since joining Louisville he's played five games as the DH and three at first base, going 8-for-28 (.286) with two doubles and five RBIs.

Hannahan is now back with the Reds and took batting practice and did some infield work at first base before Saturday's 1-0 win over the Nationals at Great American Ball Park.

"I think he's very close to passing the smell test right now as far as being ready to go, which would be more as a bench bat and could play some first base," manager Bryan Price said. "He's not quite ready to play third and make those across-the-diamond throws on a regular basis.

"So he'll continue to work on his arm strength and his arm conditioning. But I would say, here in the next day or two, there's a good chance we could activate him."
