MILWAUKEE -- In the Competitive Balance Lottery for an extra Draft pick on Wednesday, the Reds drew the first pick of Round B. That means they will get a selection immediately following the second round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft.
These picks can be important since they give clubs an extra chance to make picks during the early portion of the Draft. And unlike regular selections, competitive balance pick positions are allowed to be used in trades.
In effect since 2012, the Competitive Balance Lottery gives teams who have either one of the 10 smallest markets or 10 smallest revenue pools one of six additional choices after each of the first and second rounds.
A club's odds of winning the lottery were based on its prior season's winning percentage compared to other eligible clubs in that lottery round.
