No deal close with Cuban pitcher Iglesias

CINCINNATI -- There were multiple reports on Friday that the Reds were close to signing Cuban free agent pitcher Raciel Iglesias. However, a club source said there was interest in Iglesias, but that nothing was close to being done.

Iglesias, a 24-year-old reliever, threw in a showcase for big league scouts last month. He pitched for Cuba in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

In November, Iglesias successfully defected from Cuba. He currently resides in Mexico.
