CINCINNATI -- Home-plate umpire Brian O'Nora had to leave Thursday's Reds-Cardinals game after being struck by a pitch.
With Colby Rasmus batting for St. Louis in the top of the second inning, Reds pitcher Kip Wells bounced a pitch in the dirt that jumped up and hit the inside of O'Nora's right leg. The umpire limped to the grass behind the plate and went down in obvious pain.
There was a nine-minute delay in the game while Reds trainers attended to O'Nora, who was taken inside the clubhouse for treatment. First-base umpire Adrian Johnson took over behind the plate and three umpires worked the rest of the game.
