Reds option Barker to Triple-A

CINCINNATI -- To make room for Saturday starting pitcher Matt Maloney's recall to the 25-man roster, the Reds optioned first baseman Kevin Barker to Triple-A Louisville.

Barker batted .364 (4-for-11) in nine games since his Aug. 14 promotion from Louisville.

"He did a good job for us pinch-hitting," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "There are a couple of other guys here with more versatility. I talked to [general manager] Walt [Jocketty] and we'll get him back after the [Triple-A] playoffs unless someone gets hurt or doesn't respond."

Barker, 34, batted .284 with 22 homers and 68 RBIs in 100 games this season for Louisville.
