Broxton throws 20-pitch live BP session

LOS ANGELES -- Reds reliever Jonathan Broxton, on the disabled list since June 15 with a right elbow strain, took another positive step in his rehab on Saturday. Broxton threw 20 pitches in a live batting practice session against Reds hitters at Dodger Stadium.

Broxton reported no issues from the session.

"He was throwing the ball good," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "He didn't quite have the command. That's to be expected, as long as there is no pain. That means he's on the way."

There remains no timetable on when Broxton might return to the active roster.

"We can't say. It'd be guessing," Baker said. "You don't know how he's going to feel tomorrow or the next day. He still has to go back-to-back days."

One of the hitters that faced Broxton was injured catcher Ryan Hanigan, who has been on the DL since July 11 with a sprained left wrist. Hanigan resumed hitting a Friday from a two-day break after a setback earlier this week.

"It was more to look at live pitches than to actually hit," Baker said of Hanigan facing Broxton.
