Bailey, McCann share NL Player of Week

Reds right-hander Homer Bailey and Braves catcher Brian McCann have been named National League Co-Players of the Week.

Bailey grabbed the spotlight last Tuesday, when he pitched the first no-hitter in the Majors this season. The 27-year-old walked one and struck out nine against the Giants at Great American Ball Park, notching his second career no-no. He also was the previous hurler to accomplish the feat, on Sept. 28 at Pittsburgh, making him the first pitcher since Nolan Ryan in 1974-75 to be responsible for the league's two most recent no-hitters.

Bailey went into his start against the Brewers on Monday night with a 3.57 ERA for the season after claiming his third career weekly award.

McCann snagged his first career weekly honor by leading the Majors with 15 hits and a .600 batting average over six games. He also ranked second in the NL with an .800 slugging percentage and first with 22 total bases.

The six-time NL All-Star hit safely in every game last week, notching five multihit performances. He went 4-for-5 with a double on Saturday against the Phillies and 3-for-4 on Sunday to extend his hitting streak to eight games. McCann raised his season average from .250 to .304 in the process.
