CINCINNATI -- Reds catcher Ryan Hanigan will join Triple-A Louisville for a rehab assignment on Tuesday. The Bats will be playing in Lehigh Valley.

Hanigan, who will be examined by medical director Dr. Tim Kremchek on Monday before departing, has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 21 because a left oblique strain and sore right thumb.

"He's done really well. He's doing all baseball activities," head trainer Paul Lessard said. "He's hitting well. His body is responding well, at least that's what he's telling us."

It is not known yet how many games Hanigan would need before returning to the Reds. He was eligible to be activated on Sunday.
