GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- After missing a few days with some soreness in his groin muscle, backup corner infielder Jack Hannahan returned on Thursday against the Royals. Hannahan replaced Joey Votto at first base in the sixth inning and went 0-for-1.
"It was just a minor little setback, some tightness and discomfort," Hannahan said before the game. "It was nothing major, just a two-day cautionary break. I'm ready to rock and roll."
In 21 spring games, Hannahan is batting .225 (9-for-40) with three RBIs. He recently went to Minor League camp for extra at-bats.
"I went down there four days ago, got seven at-bats," Hannahan said. "It was good to get at-bats, see pitches. Spring Training is a good time to get your legs under you and timing down to get ready for the season."
