Reds use caution with Frazier's healing calf

PEORIA, Ariz. -- The Reds aren't taking the slightest of chances of players with even minor injuries this early in Spring Training. Third baseman Todd Frazier has not played since Saturday, when he strained his left calf sliding into third base against the Indians.

"We're just being precautious about it, nothing serious," Frazier said Tuesday. "I could play, but they said I'm going to take a couple of days off just to heal it up."

Frazier is 2-for-4 with one RBI in two games this spring. He returned to taking batting practice during Tuesday's workout.

"Everything is good. We're just taking it slow," Frazier said. "I'd like to get out there, but we got at least a month. I will get the at-bats."

Reds right fielder Jay Bruce, who was scratched before Monday's game against the Brewers with a sore right heel, did not play again on Tuesday against the Padres.

"He said he could play tomorrow, but he's not going to," Reds manager Dusty Baker said.
