Actor Charlie Sheen donates $50,000 to Reds Community Fund

Actor and Reds fan Charlie Sheen has pledged $50,000 to the Reds Community Fund, matching the amount raised by Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman on Friday.

Sheen was in attendance Friday night at Great American Ball Park when Brennaman’s head was shaved live on the field following the game to raise money and awareness for the Reds Community Fund, Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund and The Dragonfly Foundation.

After witnessing the postgame festivities and learning more about the Community Fund’s mission, Sheen stepped up and matched the $50,000 pledge, earmarking it for the Reds Urban Youth Academy project.

“The City of Cincinnati has opened its arms to me so graciously and I’m compelled to give something back,” said Sheen on Saturday evening. “If this contribution points one kid in the right direction, then we’ve done our job.”

The Reds Urban Youth Academy will be a year-round baseball and softball training facility for inner-city boys and girls located at Roselawn Park. Partners in the project include Major League Baseball, the City of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Recreation Commission.

Charlie and his father Martin Sheen were at Great American Ball Park this weekend celebrating Martin’s 70th birthday.
