CINCINNATI -- The Reds on Wednesday signed right-handed reliever Michael Wuertz to a Minor League contract. Wuertz reported to the organization's complex for extended spring training. "We'll see where it goes from there," emailed Bill Bavasi, the Reds' vice president of scouting and player development. Wuertz, 33, spent 2011 with the A's and had a 6.68 ERA 33 2/3 innings over 39 games. He missed a large part of the season because of hand and wrist injuries and was released in October.
Once considered a quality setup man, Wuertz is 21-11 lifetime with a 3.71 ERA in 426 games with the Cubs and A's from 2004-11.
