CINCINNATI -- Tuesday's rainout forced the Reds the adjust their rotation a little bit. But it won't affect Johnny Cueto's life one iota. Cueto is still starting on Friday at Pittsburgh, as originally scheduled. He will be followed by Mike Leake on Saturday and Mat Latos on Sunday. This keeps Cueto on his regular turn.
"He's going too well not to right now," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. Cueto is 3-0 with a 1.39 ERA in five starts this season. He last pitched on Saturday vs. the Astros. Because of Monday's off-day, he will be working on five days' rest instead of his usual four. The other option for the Reds would have been to skip Leake, who was originally slated for Thursday vs. the Cubs. Homer Bailey is now taking that start after being pushed back from Wednesday. Leake is 0-3 with a 6.65 ERA in his four starts this season. Baker was just glad the postponed game wasn't rescheduled as part of a doubleheader during this series. It will likely happen when the Cubs return to Cincinnati Aug. 17-19. "Had we done that and had to go with Leake and Bailey tomorrow, that would have really messed up our rotation," Baker said. "Then we'd have to get somebody in here and send somebody out that we don't want to send out, and they'd have to be out 10 days and we'd have to change our whole rotation around."
