Twins on the mound: Slowey was impressive in his fourth start of Spring Training, tossing five scoreless innings and surrendering just three hits while striking out five batters. The right-hander, who made his fourth start of the spring, retired the last eight batters he faced. Juan Rincon pitched one scoreless inning.

Reds on the mound: Homer Bailey, who is competing for a spot in the rotation, looked sharp, pitching four innings and surrendering just one run on three hits and two walks. Right-hander Edinson Volquez, who is also trying to earn a rotation spot, threw two scoreless innings, allowing two hits while recording two strikeouts.

Grapefruit League records: Twins 12-9, Reds 11-12.

Up next for the Twins: The Twins host the Phillies at Lee County Sports Complex on Friday at 1:05 p.m. ET for the second and final spring meeting between the two teams. Right-hander Livan Hernandez will make his fifth spring start for the Twins.
