Reds at the plate: Cincinnati sent 10 to the plate in a four-run third, in which Juan Castro hit a two-run single to center field and Brandon Phillips hit a two-run double off the wall in right-center field. Andy Green led off the sixth with a homer to left field. Adam Rosales hit an RBI double in the seventh.

Phillies at the plate: In a four-run second, Casey Smith hit a three-run homer to left field. Pat Burrell hit a sacrifice fly in the third. Smith added an RBI single in the fourth and scored on Pedro Feliz's infield hit.

Reds on the mound: Jeremy Affeldt was tapped for seven earned runs and nine hits over 3 1/3 innings in his fourth start. He walked one and struck out three. Jim Brower allowed one unearned run in 1 2/3 innings. Mike Stanton and Scott Sauerbeck each worked one inning of relief with one walk and one strikeout.

Phillies on the mound: Starter Jamie Moyer allowed four earned runs and four hits over five innings, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Grapefruit League records: Reds 9-8, Phillies 5-10

Reds up next: The Reds will play a pair of split-squad games on Friday at 1:05 p.m. ET. The home team will host the Yankees in Sarasota, with Matt Belisle starting against Phil Hughes. Josh Fogg will start the road game vs. the Pirates in Bradenton and be joined by position players Edwin Encarnacion, Jay Bruce and Phillips. Matt Morris will start for Pittsburgh.

Phillies up next: Francisco Rosario is expected to start against the Braves at 1:05 p.m. on Friday. The righty is having a strong spring and is emerging as a dark-horse candidate for the No. 5 spot in the rotation. Kyle Kendrick will start in a Minor League game at the Carpenter Complex.
