Reds stave off Red Sox's comeback

Reds at the plate: Andy Phillips had a three-run triple in the sixth inning, and Jolbert Cabrera went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Red Sox at the plate: Kevin Cash singled home two runs in the second inning, while Manny Ramirez went 2-for-3 and Alex Cora went 2-for-2. Third baseman Keith Ginter added an RBI double in the Red Sox's four-run seventh inning.

Reds on the mound: Homer Bailey went three solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Edinson Volquez pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out four. Reds pitcher Mike Lincoln came on in the sixth inning, allowing four runs, four earned, on three hits.

Red Sox on the mound: Jon Lester went three innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Javier Lopez was charged with five unearned runs in the sixth inning, when he allowed four hits and a walk, while also hitting a batter.

Grapefruit League records: Reds 4-4, Red Sox 3-3.

Up next: The Red Sox host the Dodgers at City of Palms Park on Thursday at 1:05 p.m. ET. Tim Wakefield is scheduled to start for Boston.

The Reds host the Yankees at Ed Smith Stadium on Thursday in Sarasota, Fla., at 1:05 p.m. ET. Right-hander Aaron Harang is the expected starter.
