PITTSBURGH -- There was an Edgar Renteria sighting on Saturday, when the injured Reds shortstop appeared as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning of a 5-3 loss to the Pirates. Renteria hadn't played since Tuesday, when he suffered a strained left groin while running out a double against the Nationals. In his pinch-hitting appearance, he flied out to center field. Manager Dusty Baker said that Renteria might return in the Reds' next series, which begins Tuesday in Miami.
"That was a sign he's getting closer," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "We'll see, maybe in Florida. He had an excellent at-bat. If he reached base, I was going to have Homer [Bailey] run for him."
