CINCINNATI -- The Reds placed right-handed reliever Jose Arredondo on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained right forearm and recalled lefty reliever Jeremy Horst from Triple-A Louisville. The DL move for Arredondo was retroactive to July 7. On July 6, he earned his first victory for Cincinnati with two scoreless innings in a 9-8 win at St. Louis in 13 innings. "He should be all right by next week. We made it retroactive to seven days ago, which helps a lot," Reds manager Dusty Baker said.
Arredondo was 1-3 with a 3.04 ERA in 24 games this season, covering 23 2/3 innings. "He wasn't available in Milwaukee," Baker said. "When a guy has had Tommy John [surgery], you want to be more careful, even though it's not in the same area. He just didn't feel 100 percent. Even though he says he's fine today, we can't afford to be short tomorrow or the next day if he doesn't feel right." Horst is in his second stint with the Reds at the big league level. In five appearances from May 28-June 22, he had a 3.24 ERA.
