CINCINNATI -- Reds fans will have a chance to see the potential their team holds when left fielder Yonder Alonso and catcher Devin Mesoraco take the field for the U.S. in the 2011 Futures Game.
Both Alonso and Mesoraco are playing for Triple-A Louisville and rank among the best hitters in the 14-team International League.
Alonso, who also played in the 2010 Futures Game, is Cincinnati's top prospect, according to MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo. Originally a first baseman, Alonso has spent most of this season in left field, as the Reds already have a certain National League MVP holding down the fort at first.
Alonso has eight home runs and is ninth in the International League with a .313 average. He made his Major League debut in September 2010 but has yet to be called up in 2011.
Mesoraco, Cincinnati's No. 2 prospect according to Mayo, is hitting .322 this season -- fifth best in the International League. He has eight home runs and 26 doubles.
Fans have seen a clear improvement from Mesoraco after he went 12-for-52 in limited action with Louisville last season. He has yet to make his Major League debut.
