CINCINNATI -- Reds third baseman Scott Rolen was not in the starting lineup for a third straight game on Tuesday because of a bout with strep throat. Rolen said he was still not feeling much better.

Backup shortstop Edgar Renteria has good lifetime numbers against Cubs Tuesday starter Doug Davis, but a sore lower back still kept him out of the lineup. Renteria has not played since June 1, but he is not a candidate for the disabled list at this point.

"He's a lot better," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "If he continues this, he could be ready for a couple of games in San Francisco. If he wasn't, we'd be thinking about DL-ing him. But if we don't have to, we won't."
