Milton takes hits in loss to Twins

|
TWINS 5, REDS 3
at Fort Myers, Fla.
Wednesday, March 21

Reds at the plate: The Reds erased a 3-0 deficit in the third inning on Josh Hamilton's groundout that scored one run, and Javier Valentin's single later scored two runs. Hamilton later added a single. Edwin Encarnacion had a pair of hits to pace the Reds' offense.

Twins at the plate: Michael Cuddyer hit a two-run homer in the first to stake the Twins to a 2-0 lead. Cuddyer, who knocked in a run later in the game, had three hits to pace the Twins' offense. Luis Castillo also had three hits, including a triple.

Reds on the mound: Left-hander Eric Milton faced some of his old teammates, and the old teammates got the better of him. In five innings, Milton gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits.

Twins on the mound: Right-hander Sidney Ponson looked as if he's rounding into early-season form. He had the Reds beating his sinker into the ground. While Ponson gave up seven hits in four innings, his outing looked better than the final numbers -- three runs, one walk and one strikeout.

Grapefruit League records: Reds 13-6; Twins 11-10-1

Up next: The Reds meet the Yankees on Thursday at Ed Smith Stadium. Right-hander Kyle Lohse will start, and he will face right-hander Carl Pavano. As for the Twins, they travel to St. Petersburg to play the Devil Rays. Right-hander Boof Bonser will start, and Bonser will face left-hander Casey Fossum.
