Baker looking to get Hermida some action

CINCINNATI -- Manager Dusty Baker gave Jeremy Hermida his first start for the Reds in left field vs. the D-backs on Wednesday in place of Jonny Gomes. One of the reasons was that Gomes is 0-for-5 with three strikeouts lifetime vs. Arizona starter Ian Kennedy.

The left-handed hitting Hermida, who batted .333 in 10 games for Triple-A Louisville before his callup on Monday, came into the night hitless in three at-bats for Cincinnati.

"This guy is tough against right-handers when he's on," Baker said of Kennedy. "I'm trying to get some left-handers in the lineup and give Hermida some action since he's been playing every day."
