CINCINNATI -- The Reds added more competition for spots on the pitching staff Thursday when they signed veteran reliever Brian Meadows to a Minor League contract and invited him to Spring Training.
Meadows was 3-6 with a 5.17 ERA and eight saves in 53 games last season for the Devil Rays. A Major Leaguer since 1998, the right-hander has also pitched for the Marlins, Royals, Padres and Pirates.
In 336 career games, including 122 starts, Meadows is 47-62 with a 5.05 ERA.
In other news, the Reds agreed to terms on one-year contracts with left-hand pitchers Jon Coutlangus and Phil Dumatrait, right-handed pitcher Calvin Medlock, outfielder Chris Dickerson and first baseman Joey Votto. That gave Cincinnati 23 signed players on the 40-man roster for next season.
