Arroyo, Reds hope to impress vs. Braves

After requesting to be moved up in the rotation to pitch on three days' rest, Bronson Arroyo will start as the Reds' series with the Braves continues on Saturday afternoon. With Friday's 5-4 win, Cincinnati has a chance to take the series.

This will be Arroyo's ninth attempt at victory No. 10 for the season. Since notching his ninth win on June 19, the right-hander is 0-4 with a 5.02 ERA.

In his previous start on Tuesday against the Dodgers, Arroyo allowed 10 hits over six innings and did not figure in a 10-4 decision lost by Cincinnati. Five straight two-out hits in the third inning accounted for all four earned runs scored against him.

This will be the first time Arroyo has worked on three days' rest since Aug. 1, 2000, when he was a rookie with the Pirates. He allowed two earned runs over six innings in that game for a no-decision.

Arroyo is 2-1 with a 4.97 ERA in his career against Atlanta. On July 9 of this season at Turner Field, he was an 8-3 loser when he allowed six earned runs and 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings -- his shortest outing of 2006.

CIN: RHP Bronson Arroyo (9-7, 3.31 ERA)
The Reds are 13-10 in the 23 games that Arroyo has started this season.

ATL: RHP Jason Shiell (0-2, 6.39 ERA)
After he began the season pitching in an independent league, this will be Shiell's third start for the Braves.

Player to watch
Royce Clayton has two homers in three days after having zero for the season before that.
