Arroyo stifles former team in shutout

Red Sox at the plate: Boston got only three hits while its regulars were in the lineup. Singles by Coco Crisp, Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis were the only hits the Sox could muster against former teammate Bronson Arroyo.

Reds at the plate: Rich Aurilia belted a solo homer, Scott Hatteberg provided an RBI double and Austin Kearns contributed a two-run single.

Red Sox on the mound: Veteran knuckleballer Tim Wakefield finished his impressive spring by going four innings and allowing two hits and one run while striking out three. Mike Timlin, Julian Tavarez and Jonathan Papelbon all pitched scoreless innings.

Reds on the mound: It was quite a homecoming for Arroyo. Traded to the Reds on March 20, Arroyo stifled the Red Sox over seven innings, allowing just three hits while striking out nine.

Grapefruit League records: Red Sox 9-18-1; Reds 20-11.

Up next: The Red Sox will work out in Fort Myers on Friday before heading to Philadelphia for exhibition games on Saturday and Sunday.

The Reds travel to Winter Haven to face the Indians on Friday at 1:05 p.m. ET, with left-hander Brandon Claussen taking the mound.
