MANAGERIAL/COACHING CAREER: Don Long is in his fourth season in the organization, all as hitting coach for the Major League team...spent the 2011-2013 campaigns as minor league hitting coordinator for the Braves following a 3-year stint as the Pirates' Major League hitting coach (2008-2010)...before he went to Pittsburgh, in 1999 he was the Phillies' roving hitting instructor and from 2000-2007 served as that organization's minor league hitting coordinator...has 11 years of minor league managerial experience, all in the Angels organization, and 3 times was voted his league's Manager of the Year (1990 Class A Midwest League, 1991 Class AA Texas League, 1995 Class AAA Pacific Coast League)...was the head coach at Seattle University in 1986, then the next season coached at Class A Quad Cities before beginning his managerial career in 1988.

PLAYING CAREER: The former switch-hitter was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the third round of the 1983 draft and played 3 seasons in their farm system...was drafted 4 times, in 1980 by the Indians, in 1981 by both the Astros (January) and Reds (June) and in 1983 by the Giants.

PERSONAL: Attended Meadowdale High School and Edmonds Community College in Lynwood, WA and Washington State in Pullman...resides in Edmonds, WA with wife Dian and sons Stewart, Preston and Tyler.
