MANAGERIAL/COACHING CAREER: Freddie Benavides is in his fourth season on the Major League coaching staff and in his second year as first base coach...spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons as the club's infield coach...before he joined the Reds spent the previous 15 years in their minor league system, including the last 6 as player development field coordinator...also spent 7 seasons as infield coordinator and in 2007 filled in as manager for the rookie Billings club in the Pioneer League...overall spent 4 seasons as a minor league manager...in 1999 led Class A Clinton to a Midwest League playoff spot by winning the first half...in 2000, before he was named infield coordinator, managed Class A Dayton in its inaugural season and led the Dragons to a Midwest League playoff spot with a 70-67 mark...in 2003 he served as a coach with the Major League club from August 5 through the remainder of the season.

PLAYING CAREER: Was selected by the Reds in the second round of the June 1987 amateur draft...the former infielder made 219 Major League apps over parts of 4 seasons with the Reds, Colorado Rockies and Montreal Expos.

PERSONAL: Graduated from Nixon High School in Laredo, TX...attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX...wife's name is Violeta...they have 3 children, Krizia and twins Sienna and Alec.
