MANAGERIAL CAREER: David Bell is in his first season as Reds manager...was named to the position on 10/22/18 as the 63rd manager in franchise history, the 53rd since 1900...David and his father, Buddy, is the fourth father-son duo to serve as Major League managers, joining George & Dick Sisler, Bob & Joel Skinner and Bob & Aaron Boone...Buddy managed the Tigers (1996-1998), Rockies (2000-2002) and Royals (2005-2007)...David previously spent 4 seasons in the Reds organization's player development department as a manager, at Class AA Carolina from 2009-2011 and at Class AAA Louisville in 2012...following the 2009 campaign, he managed the Peoria Saguaros of the prestigious Arizona Fall League.

FRONT OFFICE/COACHING CAREER: Following his 4-year tenure as a manager in the Reds' minor league system, in 2013 Bell worked for the Cubs as third base coach...the next year, he joined manager Mike Matheny's staff in St. Louis as assistant hitting coach before spending the 2015-2017 seasons as the Cardinals' bench coach...prior to joining the Reds as field manager in October 2018, Bell spent that season as Vice President of Player Development for the Giants.

PLAYING CAREER: The former infielder was selected by the Indians in the seventh round of the June 1990 free agent draft...played in 12 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Indians, Cardinals, Mariners, Giants, Phillies and Brewers...appeared in 35 Postseason games, reaching the American League Championship Series in 2000 and 2001 with the Mariners and the 2002 World Series with the National League Champion Giants...following that run to the World Series in 2002, was named San Francisco's Most Inspirational Player...on 6/28/04 vs Montreal became the first Phillies batter in 9 years to hit for the cycle...his grandfather, Gus Bell, hit for the cycle in 1951...they are the only grandfather and grandson in baseball history to hit for the cycle.

PERSONAL: The Bells are one of Major League Baseball's five 3-generation families, along with the Boones, Colemans, Hairstons and Schofield/Werths...David is the son of former third baseman and current Reds front office executive Buddy Bell and the grandson of Reds Hall of Famer Gus Bell...brothers Mike and Rick Bell also played professional baseball...Mike made 19 appearances for the Reds in 2000...David grew up in Cincinnati and helped lead Moeller High School to the 1989 state baseball championship.
